What season are you?
I’d like to say I enjoy all four seasons whether it comes to snowboarding, mountain biking, swimming in our lakes, or grilling out. But if I had to choose one season as my favorite, I would say summer. But with spring on our doorstep, I felt that it was an appropriate time to think about the seasons.
I love the sense of ‘newness’ that comes from the Spring. We have Easter and celebrating the hope we find in the death and resurrection of Christ, the budding of trees, and the changing of the weather. With this season comes a sense of newness and opportunity to get outside and enjoy God’s beauty! But let’s consider life’s seasons that are far less predictable than the four seasons.
We have all been through the up’s and down’s of this roller-coaster called life. Whether it is a season of stress at work, family tension at home, a bout with depression, death of a loved one, or financial instability, the seasons of life can easily defeat us with worry. It is easy for us to lose sight of hope when we are lost in the muck of struggle. But with struggle comes opportunity. No matter the distance we feel that we are away from God, there is never a point that He is out of reach.
On the other hand, some of us are going through seasons of joy where we can clearly see God’s providence in our lives. It could be a new job, an addition to the family, or pure closeness to God. We want to bask in this season because it is comfortable. It is easy to lift praise to God in these seasons because the joy is easy to find, but it is also easy to forget about God in the seasons of joy because we feel like we have control over our lives. But like a flip of a switch, we can find ourselves in a season where we are struggling to stay afloat.
Acknowledgement of Faith
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He never tires but gives strength to the weary whose hope is in Him. Let us, the hopeful, then strengthen feeble arms and weak knees and focus our eyes on Him, Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. That in the course of life He has set for us we will soar on wings like eagles, we will run and not grow weary, we will ride to tell of our hope, and will live strong till the rapture!
Consider James 4:13-15:
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”
Sometimes we want a particular season of life to end. We want to find relief from our marital tension, unemployment, stress, or sense of hopelessness. But God wants us to exist in our season of life until He says it is time for a new season. God doesn’t operate on our time and He always wants to communicate with us. When we find ourselves lost in a particular season, though the season may not last forever, God will not move us until He is ready. We are also told that worrying will not add a moment to our lives. Think about it. What is your season currently? Is it a season of joy, hope, and peace, or are you lost, searching, and alone? In either sense, think about God trying to mold you in your current state. His concern is always your heart and molding it to be in his image no matter your season of life.
Here are some things to help you through this:
- Identify the season of life in which you find yourself.
- Where is God in your current season?
- Are you okay with allowing God to move you out of this season when He says you are ready?
