#1
John 3:16
This is the probably the most famous Bible passage. Known as the “Golden Verse” of the Bible, it summarizes God’s plan for humanity: to love, to give, to offer restoration and eternal life. The above links to the New International Version of this verse. Our version of this passage is found in Day 1 of The Easy Bible®. It also gets more coverage on Day 21.
#2
Psalm 23
The 23rd Psalm has been a favorite for generations. In beautiful poetic language, God’s care for us, His children, is conveyed. The link here is to the traditional King James Version of this Psalm. Our version of this passage is found in Day 38 of The Easy Bible®.
#3
The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
Here’s a model for prayer, taught by Jesus Himself, in the updated language of the New Living Translation. Our version of this passage is found in Day 3 of The Easy Bible®.
#4
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)
For nearly 3500 years the Ten Commandments have shaped the laws of nations and cultural values around the world. Here’s the highly readable New Century Version rendition of this famous passage. Our version of this passage is found in Day 4 of The Easy Bible®. See the sample online. I’m especially excited about The Easy Bible’s version of this passage because it brings out what is often missed in a casual reading.
#5
The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12)
Jesus stood up to speak, and, in a few minutes, introduced his audience to a whole new way of thinking about God. This is preserved in the Bible as the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5, 6 & 7. The most famous portion of the Sermon on the Mount is called The Beatitudes, linked here to the very trustworthy and accurate New American Standard Version. Our version of this passage is found in Day 18 of The Easy Bible®.
#6
The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)
In this famous parable, Jesus conveys God’s heart toward those who have gone astray. The link here goes to Eugene Peterson’s beautiful rendition of this passage in The Message. Our version of this parable occurs in Day 31 of The Easy Bible®.
#7
Creation (Genesis 1:1-31)
Here’s where it all started, and this is how the Bible opens. These words were quoted by the Apollo astronauts on December 24, 1968. The link here goes to the respected English Standard Version. Our version of this passage is found in Day 5 of The Easy Bible®.
#8
The First Christmas (Luke 2:1-20)
The birth of Jesus brought together shepherds and angels to celebrate. This links to the Good News Translation of this passage. Our version of this passage is found in Day 12 of The Easy Bible®.
#9
The Love Chapter (1 Corinthians 13)
What is love? The Bible sets the authoritative standard. It might surprise you what it includes and what it doesn’t include. Here is the Amplified Bible’s rendition of this chapter. This chapter will be included in The Easy Bible®, but it hasn’t yet been assigned a day.
#10
The Faith Chapter (Hebrews 11)
It might surprise you to know who the heroes are in the Bible’s version of a Hall of Fame. Most of these men and women experienced extraordinarily difficult circumstances, but triumphed over them by their faith. Here’s this chapter from the J.B. Phillips New Testament. This chapter will be included in The Easy Bible®, but it hasn’t yet been assigned a day.
#11
David & Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
A boy with a sling triumphs over a giant in full battle gear. This story has become embedded in our culture as a kind of archetype for good prevailing over evil. The link here goes The Message’s version of this account. This chapter will be included in The Easy Bible®, but it hasn’t yet been assigned a day.
#12
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)
Why are we here? What’s our job? The Great Commission points the way. The link here is to the New King James Version of this passage. In The Easy Bible®, this passage is found on Day 62.
#13
The Great Commandments (Matthew 22:37-40)
What is the most important command from God? Here’s the answer from the New Century Version. In The Easy Bible®, this passage is part of Day 46.
#14
The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)
Sometimes life’s strongest lessons come from the most unexpected sources. In this story, Jesus turns a seeker’s worldview upside down when a despised Samaritan becomes the hero in this famous parable. This link goes to the New International Reader’s Version. This story is part of Day 41 in The Easy Bible®.
#15
The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus (Luke 23-24)
There are several accounts of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus in the Bible. This is my personal favorite drawn from the Gospel of Luke using the New Living Translation. The Easy Bible® draws from all the Biblical accounts and spreads this important story over several days. (Days 53-62)
#16
Daniel and the Lions Den (Daniel 6)
Another famous story of God’s protection. This links to the New Century Version of this passage. The Easy Bible® will include this chapter, but a day has not yet been assigned.
#17
Christ humbled Himself (Philippians 2:3-11)
This passage, originally tossed out by the Apostle Paul as rationale for our behavior as Christians, has captivated theologians for centuries. Here it is in the New American Standard Bible. This will be included in The Easy Bible®, but a day has not yet been assigned.
#18
Parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14)
What do you need when your back is up against the wall? A miracle. Again and again throughout the Bible and throughout history, the Jewish people have looked back to this moment as their deliv#1erance from slavery. Taken from the New International Version. This will be included in The Easy Bible®, but a day has not yet been assigned.
#19
The Feeding of the Five Thousand (Mark 6:30-44)
When Jesus’ followers could only see lack, Jesus opened the way to provision in this famous miracle, recorded by four different Biblical writers. This version of the story comes from Mark in The Message. We cover this account in Day 33 of The Easy Bible®.
#20
 Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)
If you’ve ever felt left out or marginalized, this is a story for you. Zacchaeus was a despised tax collector who just wanted to get a look at Jesus. But Jesus had something much better planned. Here’s the story in the New Living Translation. In The Easy Bible®, this passage is found in Day 43.
#21
Showdown on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:17-40)
When an entire nation turned its back on God and falls into terrible self-destructive practices, a lone prophet, Elijah, confronts the nation, challenges the prophets of the false God and proves that God is God. Here’s the story from The Message. This will also be included in The Easy Bible®, but a day has not yet been assigned.
#22
Conversion of Saul (Acts 9:1-19)
As a religious zealot, Saul hated the early Christians and did what he could to throw men, women and children into prison where they were tortured and sometimes killed for their faith. But on the road to Damascus, he comes face to face with Jesus, and everything changes. Taken here from the New International Version. This will also be included in The Easy Bible®, but a day has not yet been assigned.
#23
Jonah (Jonah 1-4)
Jonah and the “whale” or “great fish” has been the subject of skepticism for generations. But if you dig into the story, you’ll find an incredibly up-to-date commentary on the things that divide us as people. Taken here from the New Century Version. We’ll include a portion of the story of Jonah in The Easy Bible®, but the days have not yet been assigned.
#24
Ruth (Ruth 1-4)
Here’s another gem, taken from the Old Testament–a story of two women whose lives are marred by tragedy, who come to find hope and a new future. This links to The Message’s version of this short Biblical book. We’ll include a portion of the story of Ruth in The Easy Bible®, but the days have not yet been assigned.
#25
A view of heaven (Revelation 4)
I choose this as one of many Bible passages that convey a picture of heaven, a vision of God, a prediction of things to come, or a discussion of life after death. These many passages need to be taken together to form a complete picture, but here’s an introduction, a first glimpse of the world beyond our world, taken here from The Message. In The Easy Bible®, we’ll compile a number of these passages and lay them out in a way that makes sense to a first-time reader.
